Children and Youth in Crisis
• 2,400 juvenile arrests annually
• 504 teen births annually
• 400 children on the waiting list for subsidized child care
• 3,300 children abused and neglected annually
• 47 percent of students on free and reduced lunch
Low Quality of Life
• 1,900 homeless individuals with an average age of 9
• 635 families required temporary housing last year
• 1,900 families sought assistance last year due to job loss, injury or illness
• 22 percent of children live in poverty
• 450 area seniors on waiting list for services
No Access to Healthcare
• 61,200 individuals are uninsured or lack access to health care
• 17 percent of children do not have heath care insurance
