2-1-1 Links Transplant Recipient to Lifeline of Services

Dolores Rodriguez (pictured right) was thrilled when she was called to Gainesville for a kidney transplant after years on the waiting list. After the surgery, she had no place to stay while she underwent follow-up care. Dolores found her answer by dialing United Way’s 2-1-1. One call linked her to the resources of community-based organizations and service groups who were there to help. Terry Velazquez is the information and referral specialist who answered Dolores’ call and who has helped her throughout the year.   “I think I talk to Terry more than I call my own mother,” said Dolores. “I don’t know what I would have done without help from her and 2-1-1.”
