Unlikely Brothers Build Unique Friendship
 Kenny and Bruce |
Kenny and Bruce make an odd couple. Bruce is 40 years older than Kenny; they are from different races and they barely tolerate each other’s taste in music, but none of that matters to them. What matters is that Kenny has gained a positive male role model and someone to talk to. He has been able to learn to play pool, bowl, visit museums, enjoy family gatherings, visit the library and go to Wild Waters. Bruce, a Gainesville Police Officer and a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Florida, was matched with a boy who had no father and little contact with his mother. Bruce’s sons were grown but he felt he had something to share with other children. “During the last six years Kenny and I have grown as people. Kenny has had a profound effect on me,” said Bruce. Kenny has grown also. He no longer displays the behavioral problems he had when he first met Bruce. He is a star basketball player and he is involved with his church. |
