Student of the Month

My name is Cody. I'm a freshman and member of Delta Upsilon fraternity at the University of Florida. I volunteered throughout high school and continue now that I am in college. I participated in the 2008 Day of Action & Gator Plunge, as well as the Saturn Bike Ride to raise money and awareness for the Boys & Girls Club.

As pledge class president, I helped organize a United Way service project to create Halloween goodie bags for the hundreds of children at the Boys & Girls Club. At Delta Upsilon, we've hosted fundraisers for United Way, and we advocate by wearing our LIVE UNITED shirts on campus.

I'm currently getting involved in the Florida Opportunity Scholars Mentoring Program.  My six mentees will be first generation college students from low-income homes.   The program focuses on helping them acclimate to college life.

I am also starting an organization called Greek Pride that will help promote awareness of UF's LGBT students in the Greek community.  Misconceptions that exist in both communities have lead to stratification on campus.  By supporting others in the Greek LGBT community and building relationships between diverse organizations, we'll promote diversity and inclusion at all levels.

I LIVE UNITED by ensuring everyone is together in moving forward to improve our community.  How do you?
