ReadingPals Initiative

Served K-3rd grades at Caring and Sharing, Girls Place, Idyllwild Elementary, Rawlings Elementary, Shell Elementary, Stephen Foster Elementary and Terwilliger Elementary.

  • More than 2,000 books taken home

  • 42 percent of students received 25 or more hours of reading mentoring

  • 39 percent of students received 19-24 hours of reading mentoring

  • 12 percent of students received 12-18 hours of reading mentoring

  • 7 percent of students received less than 12 hours of reading mentoring


ReadingPals partnered with Girls Place to begin a peer literacy mentoring program giving ReadingPal graduates and other interested 4th and 5th grade girls the opportunity to be reading mentors to kindergarten students. Twelve 4th and 5th grade girls participated in the program and were matched with 12 kindergarten girls at Girls Place. ReadingPals received a grant from the Women's Giving Circle to continue this program in the 2018-2019 school year.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

  • More than 200 volunteers participated

  • Refunded $2,574,869 to the community and saved taxpayers $565,735 in paid fees for a total impact of $3,140,604

  • The average refund was $1,719 and average EITC was $1,507 (saving an average tax fee for preparations of $260).


2-1-1 is a free service provided by United Way of North Central Florida connecting the community to critical health and social service resources. For the fiscal year 2015, 12,226 local residents called 2-1-1.
