Small Business Spotlight- Lowry Financial Advisors

Joe Lowry, Jr., Managing Partner of Lowry Financial Advisors

1. Tell us about your business; and what is your business philosophy?
Our goal is to aid our clients in Achieving Simplicity® in their personal and financial lives. This sums up our basic purpose at Lowry Financial Advisors. Technically, I am a financial advisor, specializing in goal-based wealth management.

2. Why are you passionate about your commitment to United Way’s Community Investment Fund?
It isn’t possible to give to every worthy cause that knocks on our door. We have certain organizations where we are more directly involved, but it is very nice to know that you can have an impact on other great organizations through the United Way. The case for leveraging my contributions through various grants and other matching dollars is really compelling, and makes contributing even more worthwhile.

3. What is something interesting or surprising that most people don’t know about you?
My mother was born in Cuba, and I am fluent (mostly) in Spanish. I say mostly because I don’t speak as often as I used to, and it is amazing how quickly you lose the ability to speak fluidly. My wife also speaks Spanish (both of us served as Spanish-speaking missionaries for our Church) so we do use it to communicate occasionally, to the frustration of our kids. Fortunately, I recently began working with a Spanish-speaking congregation of my Church and have been able to speak more often.

4. What would your older self tell your younger self?
To have confidence in your innate, unique abilities. Also, don’t wait so long to improve your physical self.

Small businesses play a critical role in maintaining a thriving local economy. They are no less important to the success of United Way, as we endeavor to improve lives through our work in education, income, and health. Our Small Business Partners are an important, growing family of donors, who are vital to helping us meet the needs of our community.
