Contribution will support education, income and health initiatives in north central Florida
GAINESVILLE, FL July 2, 2013 --- For more than 60 years, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have been strong supporters of United Way both at the national and local levels. Today, AT&T continues this legacy of support through a contribution of $5,500 to United Way of North Central Florida. In 2013 alone, AT&T gave $5.49 million to 562 local United Ways across the country. Locally, AT&T provided $12,706 in its workplace campaign, matched by this $5,500 grant.
United Way of North Central Florida will use the contribution to support programs that create long-lasting change in the local community in education & health.
“Those who donate and those who volunteer are greatly appreciated,” said Matt Fajack, United Way of North Central Florida’s Board Chair. “Without the support of community members and corporations, we would not be able to continue to provide funding for programs and initiatives that benefit the well-being of our community.”
United Way is dedicated to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the World to advance the common good, as is evident from the work United Way of North Central Florida is doing in Florida in the areas of improving education, income and health.
“We are so grateful to AT&T for their generous contribution to our work,” said Debbie Mason, United Way of North Central Florida’s President & CEO. “This gift helps us continue to increase graduation rates, decrease poverty and improve the health of our community through United Way initiatives and funding partnerships with local agency programs.”
In addition to this contribution, each year AT&T employees take part in an employee-giving campaign that provides millions of dollars to United Way. In 2012, AT&T employees, including employee members of the Communication Workers of America, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Telecommunications International Union, pledged $33.7 million through this campaign.
This is in addition to the $300,000 gift provided by AT&T Foundation for United Way of North Central Florida’s Check & Connect drop-out prevention program.
“AT&T shares United Way’s commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives,” said Casey Reed, Regional Director of External Affairs for AT&T. “United Way of North Central Florida’s support for programs with proven results in our community improves the lives of our citizens by connecting them with resources and expertise to help them succeed.”
