Tri-County Disaster Case Manager

Location: Gainesville, FL
Status: Temporary, Part-Time
Reports to: Tri-County Recovery Coordinator
Schedule: 25-29 hours per week
Pay: $25 per hour

Position Summary

The Disaster Case Manager will work closely with the Tri-County Recovery Coordinator and United Way North Central Florida to implement effective disaster recovery services for individuals and families in Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy counties who were impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. This position provides direct case management services to survivors, helping them navigate recovery resources, develop individualized recovery plans, and achieve long-term stability. The role requires strong collaboration with local partners, including the Tri-County Disaster Assistance Group.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide direct disaster case management services to individuals and households impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton

  • Conduct client intakes, assess needs, and determine eligibility for available programs and resources

  • Develop individualized, achievable recovery plans in partnership with survivors

  • Connect clients to financial assistance, housing resources, construction/repair services, and other community supports

  • Assist clients with advocacy, documentation, and appeals related to disaster recovery assistance 

  • Conduct home visits as needed to assess conditions and support recovery planning

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case files using designated case management systems

  • Work alongside other case managers and partners to deliver coordinated, comprehensive services

  • Participate in community outreach efforts to identify and engage underserved populations

  • Attend community meetings and represent United Way in collaborative recovery efforts 

  • Support survivors in identifying both short-term needs and long-term recovery goals

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, emergency management, or related field (or equivalent experience) 

  • At least 1-2 years of case management or human services experience preferred

  • Experience in disaster response or recovery is preferred 

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, community-based environment 

  • Strong organizational and project management skills 

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance required

Work Environment & Expectations
  • Frequent travel throughout Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy counties

  • Combination of fieldwork, remote work, and occasional office presence 

  • Ability to conduct home visits and engage directly with impacted households 

  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity required to operate computers and proofread documents 

  • Occasional lifting of materials (up to 20 pounds) and extended periods of computer use

ReadingPals Internship

We are actively seeking interns for our ReadingPals program, a mentoring initiative designed to improve children's reading skills and foster a love for reading. Interns will receive training and will take on vital responsibilities in volunteer management, program site management, and additional essential tasks. This opportunity is perfect for college students studying Family, Youth, and Community Sciences, Education, Psychology, or other fields requiring experience working with children. 

Communications and Marketing Internship

Gain experience with social media, press releases, event planning, graphic design, photography, videography and other marketing and communications activities with United Way. Ideal candidates will have a background in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design or another related field.
