As the Director of Philanthropy, you will take a 360° approach to fundraising—building on traditional workplace campaigns while expanding into high-impact major gifts, corporate partnerships, online giving, and unforgettable special events. Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy to increase and diversify revenue streams.

  • Innovate new approaches to workplace campaigns, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, small business partnerships, online giving, and events.

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at all levels, with a focus on building long-term relationships.

  • Develop creative donor engagement opportunities that inspire giving beyond traditional asks.

  • Use data-driven decision making to evaluate and adjust fundraising strategies in real time.

  • Oversee all donor recognition and collaborate with appropriate departments in volunteer engagement.

  • Confidently represent United Way at community and networking events.

  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board to pursue transformational gifts and partnerships.

  • Manage donor records and reporting to track progress against goals.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or corporate partnerships, with a proven track record of exceeding revenue goals.

  • Strong strategic planning skills with a creative approach to donor engagement.

  • Exceptional relationship-building and presentation skills; comfortable networking in any setting.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Proficiency with CRM/donor management systems and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to travel, work evening and/or weekend events as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CFRE preferred.

  • Knowledge of local community dynamics.

  • Experience in brand storytelling, campaign design and marketing.

  • Experience with grant writing and grant reporting.

Compensation

Assistant VITA Coordinator

Position Summary

The Assistant VITA Coordinator supports the management and daily operations of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax preparation services to low-to-moderate income individuals and families. The Assistant VITA Program Coordinator will support the Program Manager in overseeing site operations, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring accurate and compliant tax preparation services. This role is deal for organized, community-minded individuals looking to make a positive impact. This positions helps ensure that sites operate efficiently, volunteers are supports, and clients receive high-quality service.

The individual should be able to speak Spanish fluently and be able to commit to workin 25 hours per week. This position is a paid position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and implementing VITA site operations

  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for tax preparation and administrative roles

  • Support volunteer with guidance and troubleshooting during tax preparation

  • Ensure quality control and compliance with IRS policies

  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation and client data

  • Assist with site logistics, including workspace setup, supplies, and technology

  • Help with outreach efforts to raise community awareness of VITA services

  • Track program metrics such as number of returns prepared and volunteer hours

  • Provide tax site administration, including the collection of required IRS forms and documentation from tax clients.

  • Ensure IRS Code of Conduct and Confidentiality regulations are being practiced

  • Ensure UWNCFL tax sites remain in compliance with all IRS Quality Site Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in business, accounting, social services, or related field 

  • Must complete IRS VITA Certification at the Advanced Level upon hire, prior to tax season start

  • Fluent in Spanish (written and verbal)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with VITA or tax preparation programs preferred, but not necessary

  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain professionalism under pressure

Technology and Skills Needed
  • Proficiency with computers, including tax preparation software

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Web navigation skills

  • Ability to multitask, manage time, and operate independently

  • Competency in public speaking

  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license required

VITA Site Coordinator

Position Summary

The Site Coordinator is critical because the Site Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of a VITA site and ensures compliance with IRS requirements. The Site Coordinator is responsible for managing the overall operation of a VITA site, including volunteer coordination, client flow, quality review, and adherence to IRS guidelines. This role ensures that taxpayers receive accurate, free tax preparation and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensures site operations are in accordance with IRS VITA/TCE program policies and procedures

  • Manages appointment systems, walk-in processes, and client flow

  • Ensures adequate supplies, forms, and equipment are available and functioning

  • Tracks and reports site activity data (returns prepared, e-filed, rejected, etc.)

  • Oversees the intake/interview process to ensure Form 13614-C (Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet) is used consistently

  • Ensures every return undergoes a proper quality review before filing

  • Maintains confidentiality of taxpayer information

  • Monitors daily site activities and troubleshooting issues as they arise

  • Ensures security of taxpayer data and use of IRS-approved software

  • Provides on-site guidance, mentoring, and technical support to volunteers

  • Fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for volunteers and clients

  • Addresses client concerns

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Associate’s degree with 3 years' customer service experience or minimum two (2) years successful experience in tax preparation or the VITA program

  • Must complete IRS VITA Certification upon hire, prior to tax season start

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with VITA or tax preparation programs preferred, but not necessary

Technology and Skills Needed

ReadingPals Internship

We are actively seeking interns for our ReadingPals program, a mentoring initiative designed to improve children's reading skills and foster a love for reading. Interns will receive training and will take on vital responsibilities in volunteer management, program site management, and additional essential tasks. This opportunity is perfect for college students studying Family, Youth, and Community Sciences, Education, Psychology, or other fields requiring experience working with children. 

Communications and Marketing Internship

Gain experience with social media, press releases, event planning, graphic design, photography, videography and other marketing and communications activities with United Way. Ideal candidates will have a background in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design or another related field.
