Small Business Spotlight - Walter Agency

Walter Rubiera, Vice President of Walter Agency

1.  Tell us about your business; and what is your business philosophy?

Walter Agency is an independent insurance agency.   We write home, auto, business, boat and life insurance.    Our agency represents several carriers, which allows us to not only shop out prices, but to align the best coverage for the individual or company’s unique insurance needs.  Our business philosophy is to put our clients interest first.  In doing this the success will follow without even thinking about it.

2.  Why are you passionate about your commitment to United Way’s Community Investment Fund?

When Walter Agency was approached to be a Small Business Partner, I was skeptical.  However, after taking a look at what UW does, and where they give back to the community, it was a “no brainer”.  I think of UW as our Charity Agent. Being a small business, we don’t have the manpower to focus on where our funds would go.  Walter Agency feels strongly that UW is placing our donations into our community.  Walter Agency would not be able to reach all these organizations if we tried to involve ourselves directly.

3.  What is something interesting or surprising that most people don’t know about you?

My parents and all of my siblings were born in Cuba.  I speak Spanish fluently, and a big part of my family is still in Cuba.  Although I am as patriotic as they come, I am proud of my heritage and would like someday to visit Cuba and see all the places and things my mother has told me stories about.

4.  What would your older self tell your younger self?

Listen to your heart and pursue your passion.

5.  What is your favorite quote?

"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her." - George Washington
