Small Business Partner - Florida Medical & Allergy Centers

Jen Hernandez, Florida Medical & Allergy Center

1. Tell us about your business; and what is your business philosophy?

Florida Medical & Allergy Centers is a personalized medical care facility, where the needs of the patients are truly individualized.  We believe that the body has the amazing ability to heal itself, so our diagnostic testing, services and treatment options are not going to be the same for everyone.  The core of our business is allergy testing and food sensitivity testing.  Knowing and understanding what causes inflammation in the body and learning how to avoid those substances can help lead to a healthier life, with, hopefully, less need for medications.  Many of our patients are people who are making steps towards becoming healthier, but are not getting the results they expect or should be getting.  Being healthy and feeling healthy doesn’t always align for people if the air they are breathing and the food they are eating is taking a toll on their immune system.

2. Why are you passionate about your commitment to United Way’s Community Investment Fund?

As a business owner, it is difficult to navigate through the options on how you want to give back to the community.  Our local United Way team is outstanding and I am confident that the dollars I spend with them are multiplying and going far beyond what my individual dollars would be able to do.  The leverage and accountability they have really impacted my decision to become a small business partner.

3. What is something interesting or surprising that most people don’t know about you?

When I was about 7 years old, I donated my bone marrow to my amazing brother, Will.  He is a fighter and is an inspiration to me today.

4. What would you tell your younger self today?

You are loved. Your self-worth is not based on what others think, how you look or how you perform.  It is how you love other people.
