Lance Baltzley, DVM, Owner of Newberry Animal Hospital Group
1. Tell us about your business; and what is your business philosophy?
We are a locally owned and operated multi-location veterinary practice with eight practicing veterinarians and more than 35 technical and administrative support staff. The basis of our business philosophy is high-level patient care where we are giving our clients an exceptional experience. We strive to cultivate not only a caring and giving business model, but through our own developed partnerships, caring and giving investments in our community.
2. Why are you passionate about your commitment to United Way’s Community Investment Fund?
We look at the United Way as the local caretaker of this garden we call 'our community'. We understand the importance of giving monies to those with fewer opportunities so that they have a better chance to grow and flourish. We feel good giving to the United Way Community Investment Fund because of it's strong mission and great transparency.
3. What is something interesting or surprising that most people don’t know about you?
I am passionate about learning and personal development beyond my profession. I am an accomplished woodworker and machinist and I have advanced certifications in machine-tool rebuilding.
4. What would your older self tell your younger self?
Relax, enjoy the moment. Don't rush. All good things happen in good time.
5. Favorite quote?
“I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.”
Small businesses play a critical role in maintaining a thriving local economy. They are no less important to the success of United Way, as we endeavor to improve lives through our work in education, health and financial stability. Our Small Business Partners are an important, growing family of donors, who are vital to helping us meet the needs of our community.
